We've got three simple ideas that will elevate your outdoor Christmas entertaining and we've been looking forward to sharing them with you!
Mozzies are not on your guest list! Pretty insect deterrent that doubles as a table decoration? Yes please! Using a carafe or a glass vase (or even a glass bowl), fill almost to the top with water.
Then fill with all of the following. Mint, rosemary, lavender and lemon slices. Feel free to play with the contents based on what you have in your garden! Finally, top with a tea light candle and a few drops of lemongrass eucalyptus oil or lemon eucalyptus oil and burn as needed. Watch the video above for ideas! We got our oil from the Australian Eucalyptus Oil Company in Bath Lane, Bendigo.
Dani has collected a few branches from one of our fruit trees, the olive tree and the Japanese maple.
These are ready to arrange in large vases at one end of the Christmas table. Make sure they are heavy or secured vases if dining outside as a gust of wind could easily collect them!
Backyard foliage is a simple but effective statement piece for the Christmas table. You could even swap greenery with your friends to get extra variety into the mix. Different heights and leaves are the key to adding interest and drama. Watch the video above for ideas!
Did you know that the humble (but gorgeous) Petunia is capable of deterring many bugs and insects that we'd prefer not to have floating around our ankles when entertaining outdoors? They smell a whole lot better than all kinds of other deterrents as well!
So well ahead of your event (hello outdoor Christmas lunch?) make sure you're stocked up on pots of petunias to keep the pesky insects away from you and your table. They're easy going plants that don't need a lot of water and pretty much settle into the environment you put them in. With a little bit of love you'll have a beautiful army of petunias standing guard on summer days and nights! Mandy is working on her collection in the video above.
The key to our Christmas styling this year is using what you have, swapping with friends for extras and keeping it as simple as possible at every turn. Hopefully this makes for a relaxed and chilled Christmas for us all!
This year we picked a few simple ideas to make our Christmas and New Years celebrations shine, with the aim of just keeping things fuss-free and stylish. Going overboard and getting stressed out was not on our to-do list and we wanted to keep it that way!
The perfect no-bake and tonnes-of-fun Christmas cookie project for the kids! Remember kitchen benches were made to get messy so Christmas memories can be made.
This one is a great table centrepiece, but also a great kids activity! With multiple hands at work you’ll be surprised at how quickly this comes together. Then with a dusting of icing sugar, the fragrance of juicy strawberries and garden picked mint will waft across the Christmas table making you hungry for dessert!
